"It was the first time that agricultural workers from the developing world testified in an American court against an American multinational corporation," say the makers of Bananas!* about their film in a letter addressed to the international documentary community.

Swedish director Fredrik Gertten watched the trial in Los Angeles of twelve plantation workers who had health problems and suffered from infertility. The dispute is over whether or not these problems are caused by banned pesticides used by the multinational food corporation Dole on its banana plantations in Nicaragua.

Dole tried to prevent the film from being screened in the US in June 2009 and sued the filmmakers for spreading false information and defamation. However, the filmmakers took the same step. Recently, however, both sides withdrew their lawsuits.

Švédský režisér Fredrik Gertten sledoval soudní proces v Los Angeles, v němž figurovalo dvanáct plantážních dělníků trpících zdravotními problémy a neplodností. Spor se týká toho, zda jsou tyto problémy způsobeny zakázanými pesticidy, které nadnárodní potravinářská společnost Dole používá na svých banánových plantážích v Nikaragui. Společnost Dole se v červnu 2009 pokusila zabránit promítání filmu v USA a zažalovala tvůrce filmu za šíření nepravdivých informací a pomluvu. Tvůrci filmu však podnikli stejný krok. Nedávno však obě strany stáhly své žaloby.
